And all was right in the world, as the Whedonverse continues to captivate the audience and make fantastic television. I have been watching Marvel movies for as long as I can remember, and have been indulging myself in the Whedonverse for about the past five months now. Watching the Avengers and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog on a loop. I've also been taking a trip to the 90's and watching the most famous Whedon cult hit "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and I'm currently working my way through season seven as we speak. So I knew what the Whedon's could do and was so excited for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, it was one of the most anticipated shows of the fall and did not disappoint. The episode was fantastic and there was nothing that didn't hold my attention or leave me upset. Except maybe the lack of Maria Hill but that shouldn't be shocking coming out of my mouth. Let's get discussing now shall we:
- The Return of Maria Hill: My girl is back and she was fantastic. Maria is only in The Avemgers for a short amount of time so it was nice to see a little bit more depth to the character, in again a short amount of time. We learned that she has her own office in a classified location and perhaps has some secrets in her bag that Coulson doesn't know about. I am hoping these secrets will cause her to return in the future and hopefully gain a permanent roll on the show, once Cobie is done with HIMYM. Maria was the perfect person to re-introduce Agent Coulson who we know was "killed" by Loki in the Avengers.. or so we thought.
- COULSON LIVES: Can I get a hallelujah? I will be the first to admit that I cried like a small child in the theater because I believed he was actually dead. When the S.H.I.E.L.D idea was being thrown around I was so excited because A: it meant Phil wasn't dead and B: it meant more Marvel / Whedon productions. Turns out Nick Fury made the Avengers believe Phil was dead so they would become more motivated and defeat Loki (genius). I thought Phil was the king of sass, it's so great to have these multi-layered characters who have a government job but aren't robotic, they have spunk and good comedic timing for an action/drama genre show. At any moment he could switch and be a hard ass in order to do his job and help protect the people. By the way did everyone see him do the Matrix move to avoid getting hit by the door, because it was epic.
- Marvel Callbacks: Any Marvel fan was probably having nerdgasms throughout the pilot with all the references they made. A great show has great continuity so the callbacks were like music to my ear. Also the pilot begins not to long after the Battle of New York had taken place.
- Fitz and Simmons: Every time they were on my screen I was like "ugh, make out already." I hope it happens and one of them doesn't end up dead. It always happens to me in the Whedonverse. Fitz and his accent need to stay forever, you can tell he is a genius and I was left wondering if he created the robots that analyzed the room. What a good way to avoid having to touch a dead body, get a robot to do it. Simmons seems to be the central brains of the duo and the one to help keep Fitz calm. As soon as she referenced Hermione Granger I was like, you're in kiddo.
- Skye: She stole the screen for me. At first I was worried she was going to betray S.H.I.E.L.D and stay with the Rising Tide. It's too early to know whether she will cross them in the future. She had about ten minutes to decide whether she was all in or not and by the looks of things she's here to stay and I say bring it on. Not only is she intelligent and a great computer hacker, she also is quick on her feet and the chemistry between her and Ward was electric. I'm hoping for more dynamic between those two characters, and when Maria Hill returns I would love to see those two characters interact.

Hi all!! WOW! This is so cool! I feel so official now! Look Mom I'm blogging! haha okay im done... annnnnywho, I am new to the Whedonverse! I'm not much of a super hero nerd or anything like that so SHIELD wasn't exactly on my radar of new shows to watch. Obviously Kianna convinced me and I decided to give it a shot. I really really enjoyed it! I was definitely a bit confused, but i definitely want to continue and see where it goes!- Love the characters so far. Sky is a badass and I love her!
- I liked how they mixed comedy in there as well and it's not so super serious.
- Some of the references went over my head, like I said I've never seen any of those Marvel movies like avengers (I know. I suck!) lol but it's on my list!
- There's a few good lookin' dudes! That's never a bad thing :)
- So far I really like all the characters and I am definitely curious about everyone's back story!
Clearly Kianna is much better at this then I am, lol. This is one of her big shows so I just wanted to add a little smidge :)
Hopefully our questions will be answered in the future. The episode was fantastic after watching it twice everything seemed to click in more and more. Jenna and I cannot wait for next week and for the entire series to unfold in front of our eyes. If the pilot was this amazing we can only expect the series to be the same. What did you guys think of the pilot? Who is your favourite character? And which question do you want to know the answer too first?

One question is already answered:
ReplyDeleteWho created the technology used on Michael?
It comes direct from the Iron Man 3 movie, but as you said, you haven't seen it. So I recommend to do so...
By the way, I liked your review, one of the few positives out there...
