How I Met Your Mother: Mom & Dad

Happy Tuesday everybody, hope you had a great weekend and a good Monday. The best part about my Monday is always ending the day with HIMYM, because let's face it Monday's are the worst. After a really good episode last week I really wasn't expecting too much from this weeks episode. Usually these shows go great episode, great episode, filler, filler. Although next week's looks pretty kickass, an entire episode in rhyme is such a cool concept. But anyways this episode was completely filler but it was rather enjoyable I thought. Upon rewatching I did fast forward through Marshall and Daphne scenes (sorry Marshmallow) but watched everything else. But enough of this rambling intro let's get down to it:

  1. Reverend Sam Saves the Day and Gets Some: I loved Sam back when we met him a few seasons back and when Barney & Robin's original reverend died, my first thought was bring back Sam and they did. I think that there really isn't anyone better to marry these two than him. He may not know them extremely well but a lot better than the other reverends who couldn't accept their interesting lifestyles. On the other side of the storyboard we had the triangle between Jerry/Loretta/Sam which isn't exactly a triangle because one party is happily married but in the mind of Barney Stinson it's a triangle. I never really expected Sam and Loretta to hook up but hey whatever works. I loved what Robin said about everyone being with someone that made them happy and because James was going through a divorce that maybe he needed Mom and Dad for a change.

  2. Marshall and Daphne: Please tell me that Daphne is done being on the show because I do not care. I understand Minnesota to New York is a long drive but I need Marshall to break a few rules and put the pedal to the metal because we are all losing interest here. The attempt to humanize her character by using a kid to make our hearts ache did not go unnoticed. I still wasn't feeling it, so nice try. I did however love them listening to "500 miles" and Marvin driving the car at one point was hysterical but other than that let's leave Daphne on the side of the road, thank you.

  3. Detective Mosby: The world would be a better place if Ted realized how bad of a detective he was. When Lily said he was the worst, it was like she was taking the words right out of my head. Ted is really bad at solving crimes we all know this, that's why it's one of the best reoccurring themes. Speaking of reoccurring themes the Pineapple Incident was brought back up and still unsolved. I thought to myself DAMMIT HIMYM WHAT ABOUT THE PINEAPPLE?! ... You were all thinking it to. Shoutout to the writers for the 30 seconds of shirtless Josh Radnor, I will treasure this moment for a lifetime ((damn his arms)).

  4. Oh Barney...: Literally what I found myself saying this about ten times over the episode. Barney has had great character development, there is no denying that so sometimes it's comical when he reverts back to his boyish ways. Being deprived of a real childhood will do that to you. His plans to make his parents fall back in love, made me think of Parent Trap the entire time, except James is not his twin. The musical number reminded me of Pleasantville but it was strangely everything I could ever want and more. NPH and Wayne Brady singing together was like music to my ears; their voices are so angelic.

Quotes:
  • "I now pronounce your asses saved." - Sam
  • "I want to give this to Robin, Gretzky is her favourite. She sometimes says his name in bed; I've accepted it." - Barney
  • "Marriage is just a meaningless piece of paper." "I'm a lucky gal." - Barney & Robin
  • “Please tell me you didn’t put some crazy scheme in motion.” “... I didn’t put some crazy scheme in motion.” “Why did you pause?” “…..... I didn’t pause.” “WHY DID YOU PAUSE?!” - Barney & Robin
  • “Detective Mosby is the worst.” - Lily
  • “I’m marrying into this family.” - Robin
  • “Somehow people always had popcorn.” - Zabka

So yeah I thought this week's was okay nothing special but nothing terrible so that's a step in the right direction... or a complete stand still who knows. I know I ranted about humanizing characters we don't care about and I know they did it to Billy Zabka but I like him so it didn't bother me at all. I laughed at him always getting hit with popcorn. I do not know why I have more synpathy for him then Daphne but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Moving on to future episodes I do want to hopefully see JJ, Carly and Katie. I'm hoping ABC Family allows Lucy Hale and Ashley Benson to switch networks for a week, if they don't I'll be real pissed. Robin needs some sort of family to show up, it's getting depressing here.

Next week's looks really good so hopefully it all works out we are getting down to the wire here people. Episode 11 next week and they are currently starting production on 9x16 which is episode 200, time is flying by. I will try not to get emotional here. Have a good week my friends.
